Dance Forum 2007/08 The 24th annual Dance Forum presents featured guest artist Cat Manturuk from New York and an eclectic selection of original and experimental choreography by juried guest artists from across the region. Cat Manturuk is the founder and artistic director of Brooklyn's soul-driven contemporary dance company, Dance Cat-alyst. Ms. Manturuk produced the company's first concert in February 2007, bringing a broad range of New York choreographers to the dance students of Cynthia King Dance Studio in Brooklyn. Dance Cat-alyst's second season is already filled with educational outreach programs to NYC Chelsea Piers Sports Center and Sky Rink, KRESA's Education for the Arts, Western Michigan University, Albion College and Nanjing, China. Originally from Detroit, Michigan, Cat Manturuk holds a BFA in Dance and a BS in Exercise Science from Western Michigan University. Ms. Manturuk's dance career has branched out to Chicago, Los Angeles and New York City. She has performed with DANCE2xs, LA Modern and Ballet Company, Blue13 Dance, Regina Klenjosky Dance Company and College Dance Theatre. She has also had the pleasure of serving as rehearsal director for NYC female hip-hop company, Decadancetheatre. Her dance career includes music video credits with BET and MTVIndia. Ms. Manturuk has received the ACDF Excellence in Performing and Choreography Award, a Harkness Scholarship, a National Dance Association Outstanding Scholarship, and the Presidential Award. Her choreography has been noted as "creating heat..." by the L.A. Times. Master Class - While in Kalamazoo, Ms. Manturuk will present a free master class on Saturday, February 16, 2008, from 12:00-2:00 pm.
