Alternative Dance Project

In 2001, Wellspring instituted the Alternative Dance Project featuring artists of the highest professional caliber to present performances and outreach in the Wellspring Theater. This exciting program brings to Kalamazoo a diversity of dance styles from around the world.

Artists are selected based on high artistic integrity, diversity and unique voice within the art form. This programming provides southwest Michigan with access to outstanding international and national artists. Guest artists have included the Butoh company GooSayTen from Japan, Margie Gillis from Canada, Urban Bush Women from New York City and Snappy Dance Theater from Boston, among others.

In addition to presenting public concert series, Wellspring partners with area schools, colleges/universities and community organizations to present extended residencies. The residencies are a unique once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for area students to work with these highly acclaimed artists.
